It's been over 20 years since the infamous “miracle molecule” was finally understood–marked with the awarding of the Nobel Prize to three U.S. scientists. Since that time, the incorporation of miracle-molecule-forming amino acids and antioxidants such as arginine and citrulline have had astounding health benefits.

By now you may have guessed that this miracle molecule is Nitric Oxide (NO).

Nitric oxide can not be brought in from the outside, but its production can be stimulated through L-Arginine and also citruline. These elements can markedly boost production of nitric oxide and stabilize the molecule, preventing it from being inactivated by oxygen radicals. (1)

So what are the miraculous benefits of this Nitric Oxide created from L-Arginine, you ask?

Dr. Young puts it this way, “Nitric Oxide has been found to relax and enlarge blood vessels, prevent blood clots that cause strokes and heart attacks, regulate blood pressure, reduce stress on the heart, improve circulation and reduce accumulation of acidic plaque from an acidic lifestyle and diet in blood vessels. L-Arginine also boosts HGH production, increases lean muscle mass, preserves bone density and supports a healthy sexual performance.” (2)

Arginine is a conditionally essential amino acid that is involved in protein synthesis, the detoxification of ammonia, and its conversion to glucose as well as being catabolized to produce energy. (3)

TOP 5 BENEFITS OF L-ARGININE

#1 HEART & BLOOD PRESSURE

One of the three Nobel Prize winners from 1998 was Dr. Louis J. Ignarro. In his book, No More Heart Disease, he wrote, “Now we know we can reverse cardiovascular impairment naturally – with the body’s internally manufactured wonder drug, Nitric Oxide.”

Studies show that L-arginine’s nitric oxide producing ability improves survival rate during headstroke, doubles improvement markers in patients with coronary artery disease, produces superior healing after bypass surgery, improves physical ability in patients with peripheral artery disease, and much much more. (4)

J. Joseph Prendergast has been a practicing physician for over 30 years. He has treated over 7000 patients since 1993 using Arginine without a single incident of stroke or heart attack. His belief is that “l-arginine is the single most important discovery in preventing heart disease…”

Dr. Robert O. Young, has shared his clinical research on L-Arginine and its effect on blood pressure. He suggests that “L-arginine (without all the added sugars) will lower systolic blood pressure, lower pulse rate and lower blood sugars by over 15% with only 2 weeks of usage”. This is at his recommended serving size of 30 grams per day.

#2 CANCER

Scientific papers have been published about L-Arginine’s ability to increase the quantity and capability of killer T-cells in breast cancer patients. Patients with cancer have reduced levels of L-arginine causing a decrease in T-cells and impaired T-cell function. The addition of L-arginine or citrulline allowed for recovery of T-cell proliferation. (5)

#3 ANTIAGING PROPERTIES

L-Arginine increases growth hormone levels. Growth Hormone promotes an increase in muscle mass and a decrease in body fat and is believed to slow the aging process

Although exercise is one of the most potent stimulators of growth hormone release, at rest oral L-arginine ingestion will enhance the growth hormone response. Most studies using oral arginine have shown that arginine alone (5-9 g) increases the resting growth hormone levels at least 100%. (6)

#4 DIABETES PREVENTION AND TREATMENT

L-Arginine has show benefits in prevention and treatment of diabetes because many disease complications, including poor circulation and blindness, are vascular in nature.

L-arginine administration stimulates insulin secretion in the pancreas and enhances insulin-mediated glucose disposal

A long-term study of L-arginine supplementation (9 g/day for 1 month) in patients with type 2 diabetes resulted in improved insulin sensitivity and decreased systolic blood pressure. (7)

#5 PHYSICAL PERFORMANCE

A group of researches from the UK found that L-arginine supplementation reduced the amount of oxygen required to perform exercise. This means that individuals accomplished the same exercise load, but with less energy expended. In other words they were more efficient after supplementing with L-arginine. L-arginine supplementation also increased time to exhaustion by 26% during high intensity cycling.

These findings provide evidence that L-arginine supplementation (6g in a single dose) improves exercise efficiency and tolerance. (8)

L-ARGININE IN FOOD

Some of the foods highest in L-Arginine are turkey, pork loin, chicken and dairy. If you don’t eat meat or dairy, pumpkin seeds have about 7g of arginine/cup, soybeans, peanuts and spirulina have 4.6g/cup, and chickpeas and lentils have about 1.3g/cup. (9)

If you would like to follow Dr. Young’s recommendation of 30g/day of Arginine, but you don’t want to eat 23 cups of Chickpeas to get it, he has developed some truly amazing and unique formulas to help get you there.
